What does the Bible say about prayer?
Prayer is any time we have a conversation with God. There are no special rules that you need to follow to talk with God. Prayer also involves us listening to what God puts on our hearts. If someone pops in your mind have you ever thought that God did that for a reason? Or maybe you feel strongly about a certain cause for a reason.
Let’s first take a look at what the Bible says about prayer so that we can gain a better understanding.
Why Become a Prayer Warrior?
Prayer is an incredibly powerful thing but not everyone sees it that way. Maybe you think that you have to actually physically do something in order to be sharing God’s love. Not all of us are called to everything but each of us can do something and the most important thing we can do is to pray. Pray for ourselves, others, our family, our friends, our community, our leaders, our church and anyone and everything in between. Prayer is always needed and always useful.
The good thing about becoming a prayer warrior is that there is no special training needed. Pray as much as you can throughout your day and it will help you to become a prayer warrior.
How to Pray More
One big complain I always hear from people who are working on becoming more spiritual is that they don’t have time to pray. Life is always going to be crazy busy sometimes you just have to make time. Here are some ways that I add prayer to my day as a busy mom of two toddlers.
Pray in the Morning
Or at night, or at lunch or whenever works best for you. Personally, I like to say prayers over my children when they wake up. What I usually pray is, “Dear Lord, thank you for my children. They are truly blessings from above and please help us and guide us towards Your will today.” It isn’t overly complicated and my toddlers really like to shout amen at the end. It is a great way to start our day. Praying in the morning and throughout the day puts me in the best position to speak to God more.
I’m actually not very good at praying before bed. I’m a mom so I’m really tired at night from chasing two toddlers around. I find it easier to say a small prayer at night and pray more during the day. If you are a night owl then by all means feel free to pray your longer prayers at night. God always wants to hear from us so just experiment with what works best for you.
Pray in the Car
This is one of my biggest tips for becoming a prayer warrior. I always listen to Christian music or pray while driving. I have had so many amazing talks with God during long drives by myself. I’ve also had plenty of good prayer time with my kids strapped into their car seats while we were out doing errands. I think we don’t always utilize our driving time as much as we should.
Recite The Lord’s Prayer
My local radio station here in Houston recites The Lord’s Prayer every day at noon. Now that I’m a stay at home mom I don’t always have the radio on at noon but I do like to recite The Lord’s Prayer daily. Reciting The Lord’s Prayer is a powerful way to improve your prayer life and get in the habit of talking to God daily.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
One of my favorite “hacks” for praying more is to do a daily art time with my kids. They will sit and color quietly any where from 5 to 20 minutes at a time. It is a nice peaceful time where they can learn the different stories in the Bible and I can reflect on a few verses and pray.
These are a few products that we love to use. I am working on designing a few free ones for Two Pink Peonies. In the meantime, here are a few recommendations if you’d like to set aside some time to color, reflect, and pray. I’ve also found that coloring is a huge stress reliever.
Keep a prayer journal
Keeping a prayer journal is another great way to become a prayer warrior. It is a great way to keep track of your prayers and praises as well. Sometimes writing down all the things that go through our head and that are on our heart helps us to be more efficient and effective at prayer.
