Halloween is such a special time of year. I love going all out with decorations, costumes, food, and candy. My house is one of the first houses to get decorated in our neighborhood.

❤️ Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Easy: You need just a few ingredients to make this dip. It is so easy to make.
  • Fun and spooky: Guests will love this fun and spooky dip.
  • Tastes great: You can’t go wrong with this classic cheese dip recipe. It tastes great with tortilla chips, potato chips, or even fresh cut vegetables.

🥣 Ingredients needed

The ingredients needed to make Halloween cheese dip.

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

For this recipe, you will need:

  • Velveeta
  • Diced tomatoes with green chiles: Such as Rotel. I used mild but feel free to use whatever your spice preference is.
  • Black olives
  • String cheese

🧂 Variations

Breakfast sausage or a block of cream cheese are a nice addition to this cheese dip.

You can swap the cheese dip recipe out for your favorite (my family also loves this Crockpot Chili Cheese Dip and this Crockpot Spinach Queso) and just add the cheese and olive eyes to make this dip festive.

🔪 Equipment needed

You can make this cheese dip in any large pot. I used a cast iron skillet because it had a witches’ cauldron look to it. You can also make this dip in your slow cooker but I recommend transferring it to another dish when serving or the eyes will melt quickly.

⏲️ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)

Steps 1 through 3 showing how to make Halloween cheese dip.

Begin by spraying your pot with non-stick spray. Cube your cheese, add it to your pot, and then add the diced tomatoes with green chiles (do not drain). Heat the mixture over medium-low heat (image 1). Stir occasionally.

While the dip is melting, cut your cheese sticks into pieces then using a pairing knife cut a small hole for the olive eye (image 2). Do not cut too small as the cheese stick will melt some when coming into contact with the hot dip. Cut a small piece of the black olive and then add it inside of the cheese (image 3).

Steps 4 and 5 showing how to make Halloween cheese dip.

Stir until your dip is evenly melted (image 4). Place the cheese stick and olive eyes on top of the dip (image 5).

🥗 What to serve with this recipe

Serve with tortilla chips, potato chips, or fresh cut vegetables.

You could also serve it with other fun Halloween recipes like this Dyed Spaghetti (I dye it black and orange for Halloween), this Halloween Spinach Dip, and this fun Halloween Veggie Tray.

👩🏻‍🍳 Tips

  • Cut the string cheese thicker than you think. Some of it will melt when you place it on top of the dip.
  • I used a cast iron skillet because I thought it gave the recipe a Halloween vibe (like a witch’s caldron) but you can use any pot and then transfer to a dish.
