Stovetop Chicken Marsala {Easy Weeknight Dinner}

No need to go out to a restaurant, this simple stovetop chicken marsala recipe is great for a weeknight dinner. It’s quick, easy, and delicious. Don’t let the amazing flavors of the dish intimidate you since they are mostly due to the Marsala wine. I promise that this isn’t an overly difficult dish to throw together.

Chicken marsala is an Italian-American dish made out of chicken breast and Marsala wine.

What to serve with this stovetop chicken marsala?

I love to serve this recipe with buttered noodles (recipe below) but you can also serve this dish with an Italian country loaf and dipping sauce or roasted vegetables. Mashed potatoes or green beans also go well. If you want to keep it lower calorie or healthier you could also serve this dish with mashed cauliflower.

What do I need to make this recipe?

For the stovetop chicken marsala, you’ll need:

  • Chicken breast
  • Flour
  • Shallots
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter
  • Mushrooms
  • Marsala wine
  • Heavy cream
  • Lemon juice

For this recipe you can use fresh or canned mushrooms. Fresh is always best but if you canned mushrooms those will work great too!

How do I make this recipe?

To make this recipe, begin by gathering and measuring out your ingredients. You’ll need:

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 shallots finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 ounces of mushrooms
  • ¼ cup of Marsala wine
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Begin by slicing your chicken breasts in half. Next, Pound the chicken breasts with a mallet until they are thin and the meat is evenly distributed. Then either in a large bowl or a plastic ziplock bag add the flour, salt, pepper and the chicken. Shake the chicken in the salt, pepper, and flour mixture. Next add the butter to skillet. Once butter begins to melt, adjust to a medium setting and cook chicken breasts for about three minutes per side. Remove the chicken and set aside. Add shallots and mushrooms to skillet and sauté. Add Marsala wine and then bring to a boil, reduce temperature and add cream and lemon juice. Scrape bottom of the pan and then add the chicken breasts back to skillet. Cook for about four more minutes or until chicken is finishedCook for about ten more minutes or until chicken is finished cooking.

For the Buttered Noodles

If you want to make buttered noodles with this recipe, you’ll need:

  • ½ package of fettuccine noodles
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cook the fettuccine per instructions per package, adding one chicken bouillon cube to the water. Once the noodles are finished cooking remove any excess water with a colander and add butter, salt, and pepper and stir until melted.
