Crockpot Black Eyed Peas

crockpot black eyed peas

Looking for a side for dinner, something to bring to a potluck, or do you want good luck for New Years? Well, these crockpot black eyed peas are the way to go!

I love serving these black eyed peas with yellow cake mix corn bread. Since the corn bread is a little sweet it really compliments the flavor of the black eyed peas.

Why black eyed peas are lucky?

Have you ever wondered why black eyed peas are lucky? Supposedly the black eyed peas swell up when cooked so they represent prosperity. Corn bread which is often served along side represents gold and greens which are also commonly served with black eyed peas represent money.

To soak or not soak your black eyed peas

If possible, I highly recommend soaking your black eyed peas the night before for the best flavor but if you can’t or have forgotten, don’t worry. Your black eyed peas will still be tasty if you miss this step but even soaking them for a few hours before will help a lot.
