This is real food with real ingredients. Although the list seems long, a lot of the below ingredients are spices. To make this recipe, you will need:

  • Chuck roast: Chuck roast is an economical cut of beef that’s perfect for your slow cooker. It falls apart after being slow cooked.
  • Red onion: Most traditional pot roast recipes call for yellow or white onions but since this pot roast is tangy this recipe calls for a red onion.

  • Brown sugar
  • Canned tomato sauce: About 15 ounces.

Tips for making this recipe

  • To make prepping this pot roast easier, try combining the spices in a small airtight container the night before. This will help reduce the prep time.
  • Sear your chuck roast on both sides before slow cooking. I understand that sometimes we just need a toss and go recipe but this will really up the flavor!
  • This pot roast is best cooked on low for 6 to 8 hours. I don’t think the meat is as tender if it is cooked on high.
  • You will need some water for this recipe, but don’t worry if your roast isn’t completely covered in tomato sauce and water.
