In a large bowl add the dry ingredients together and stir well.
Use a pastry cutter to add the butter in to the dough. After adding the butter, add approximately half of the buttermilk and begin to mix the dough by hand.
Add the remaining buttermilk and knead the dough on a floured surface for about two minutes (knead longer if dough is still lumpy).
Set the dough in a three quart slow cooker and cook on high for two hours.
