Looking for a side for dinner, something to bring to a potluck, or do you want good luck for New Years? Well, these crockpot blackeyed peas are the way to go!
½pounddried black eyed peasIf possible soak the beans overnight for the best flavor
2tablespoonsolive oil
1teaspoonsgarlic salt*
1teaspoongarlic powder*
¼teaspoonsalt*
¼teaspoonblack pepper*
½white onion chopped into fine pieces
4piecesbacon sliced into small pieces (uncooked)
4cupswater
Instructions
If possible soak your black eyed peas for several hours or even overnight.If you are short on time, you can always do a quick soak or skip this step.
Dice your onion and chop your bacon into small pieces
Generously drizzle olive oil on the bottom of your crockpot (about 2 tablespoons) then add the beans, seasonings, and bacon pieces before adding the water.
Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
Check and add more water as needed.
