โค๏ธ Why youโ€™ll love this recipe

  • Wheat Germ: These cookies are one of my favorite things to make with wheat germ. If you grabbed a bottle at the grocery store on a whim or bought it to use with another recipe but aren’t sure what else to make with it, this is a great recipe to make!
  • Taste: These wheat germ cookies are sweet, buttery, and loaded with wholesome oats and nutty wheat germ.
  • Ease: This is a simple cookie recipe and you don’t even need to chill the dough.

๐Ÿฅฃ Ingredients needed

The ingredients needed to make wheat germ cookies.

The complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the printable recipe card further below in the post.

For this recipe, you will need:

  • Butter
  • Sugar and brown sugar
  • Egg
  • Vanilla extract
  • Quick oats
  • Wheat germ
  • Whole wheat flour: These cookies use whole wheat flour to make them extra nutritious.
  • Baking powder and baking soda
  • Corn starch
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon and nutmeg: The spices for the cookies
  • Chocolate chips or raisins: Or alternatively, you can use your favorite mix-in. I used chocolate chips because that’s what my family prefers.

๐Ÿซ Variations

Not a fan of chocolate chips? Feel free to add your favorite mix-ins instead. Some ideas include raisins, dried cranberries, white chocolate chips, toffee chips, or butterscotch chips.

๐Ÿ”ช Equipment needed

You will need a hand or stand mixer, baking sheets, and parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

โฒ๏ธ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)

A collage with four images showing each step of how to make wheat germ cookies.

Preheat your oven to 350ยฐ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.

Next, cream together your butter (softened to room temperature), sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract (image 1).

Next, add in the remaining ingredients except for the chocolate chips and mix until combined (image 2).

Stir in the chocolate chips (or substitute your desired mix-ins) with a large spoon (image 3) and then form dough balls (image 4).

Place six per baking sheet and bake for 9 to 12 minutes or until the edges are golden.

Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring (this finishes the baking process outside of the oven, do not skip this step).

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ Tips

  • Be sure to soften your butter to room temperature. If the butter is too hot or cold it will affect your cookie dough.
  • Let your cookies rest on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

๐Ÿฅก How to store leftovers

Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. They will be good for four days after baking.

I was looking for a way to use up some wheat germ and these were perfect. Theyโ€™ve got a nice nutty flavor and a great crunch. Honestly, theyโ€™re way more satisfying than a basic sugar cookie.
