Are you a banana pudding fan? I know I am. This classic recipe is such a great comfort food. I always get lots of compliments on this Lorna Doone banana pudding recipe at potlucks.
I am in no way a vanilla wafer hater (for proof, see my secret ingredient banana pudding recipe) but I love to make banana pudding with Lorna Doone shortbread cookies! They are such a great cookie and bump this banana pudding recipe up to the next level.
This banana pudding is still a pretty traditional recipe with just a few slight changes and tweaks.
This recipe is so fun to make for friends and family, whether it’s an after dinner treat or a dessert for your next backyard barbecue. This banana pudding is also awesome because it doesn’t have to be eaten all in one sitting, you can just stick it back in the fridge and enjoy it over the next few days.
What do you need for this recipe?
To make this Lorna Doone banana pudding recipe, you’ll need:
- 1 package Lorna Doone shortbread cookies
- 1 container frozen whipped topping (defrosted) 12 ounces
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 4 ounces cream cheese (softened at room temperature)
- 1.5 cups milk
- 1 box Vanilla or French Vanilla instant pudding mix
- 5 bananas sliced
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
How do I keep the bananas from browning?
If you want to prepare this recipe the day before having guests or bringing it to a potluck and you want it to look extra nice, brush a small amount of lemon juice on the bananas. The lemon juice will reduce the browning in the bananas and keep your banana pudding looking beautiful.

Next, using a a mixing bowl add the milk, pudding mix, cream cheese, condensed milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix the ingredients in the mixing bowl until they are smooth (especially the cream cheese, be sure it has softened before you mix it in) and then fold in the whipped topping. Pour the mixture over the cookies. Add the sliced bananas on top. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
