This copycat Golden Corral pot roast is incredibly tender with a delicious brown gravy. It is so easy to make in the comfort of your own home!
Golden Corral definitely comes to mind when I think comfort food. One of my favorites there is the pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes. I also love this Copycat Golden Coral Banana Pudding! I think Golden Corral is a great option because there is just such a variety of food. Even my oldest who is a pretty picky eater finds something he likes there.
This pot roast is really close to the one at Golden Corral. It is very tender and cooked in a savory brown gravy with carrots, onion, celery, and red potatoes. It does take a little time to cook, slow cooked is best for this type of meat.

Ingredients needed for this recipe
- Chuck roast: You’ll need a 3-4 pound chuck roast for this recipe. Getting a marbled piece of meat will really help the flavor.
- Red potatoes, carrots, and celery: The veggies for the roast. Don’t cut the celery and carrots too thin as they will cook down some.
- Brown gravy mix: You’ll need two packets of brown gravy mix.
- White onion: You’ll need one medium white onion for this recipe.
- Butter: I recommend using unsalted butter since the brown gravy mix can have a lot of sodium. You can always add more salt to taste.
- Salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried rosemary, and dried thyme: To season the roast.
You will also need a dutch oven or roasting pan.
How to make Golden Corral’s pot roast
- To make this pot roast begin by seasoning your roast generously with salt and pepper. Next, sear your roast on each side in the butter.
- After searing, remove from heat and add the vegetables and onions. Add the seasonings over the ingredients in your dutch oven.
- Mix your brown gravy according to the directions on the package and then add to your dutch oven.
- Cook at 275 degrees for 3 hours (for a 3 pound roast) or 4 hours (for a 4 pound roast).
- If using a meat thermometer, the reading should be at least 145 degrees.
How to store leftovers
You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 5 days.

Can this be adapted to a crockpot.
Audrey
Yes, I would recommend searing the meat first and adding some extra liquid to your crockpot. You can cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
