Do you love the delicious, decadent, and chocolatey Thunder from Down Under from Outback Steakhouse? If so, you’ll love this copycat version that you can make at home!
We love going to restaurants but sometimes our budget just doesn’t allow for it. Making copycat restaurant recipes at home is really a passion of mine. Some of my other Outback copycats include their ranch dressing, their honey mustard dressing, and their macaroni and cheese.
One thing my entire family loves (besides the bread and butter) from Outback is their Thunder from Down Under brownie. It is hands down one our favorite restaurant desserts ever. I’m super excited to share this recipe with you! It’s actually quick and easy to make at home too. This is a very rich and decadent dessert.
Ingredients needed
- Butter: I recommend using unsalted butter in these brownies so that you can control the amount of salt that goes into the recipe.
- Sugar: To sweeten the brownies.
- Chocolate chips: You’ll need milk chocolate chips for this recipe.
- Eggs: You’ll need two large eggs.
- Flour: Part of the base of the brownie batter.
- Instant coffee: This really enhances the brownies. I used a dark roast instant coffee. It was also hiding when I took the ingredient shot, sorry about that!
- Salt: You’ll need ¾ teaspoon of salt.
- Vanilla extract: If you can use pure vanilla extract.
- Chopped pecans: The originals have pecans but if you aren’t a fan you can leave them out.
- Ice cream and whipped cream: For topping the brownies with, if desired.
You will also need an 8 x 8 inch pan.
How to make
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees and then grease an 8 x 8 inch pan.
- Melt your butter in the microwave and set aside to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients (flour, salt, cocoa powder, instant coffee, and sugar). Stir well.
- Add in the wet ingredients (eggs, butter, and vanilla extract). Mix with a hand mixer until well combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and pecans with a large spoon.
- Pour batter into an 8 x 8 inch pan (greased) and bake for 28 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
How to store
Wrap any leftovers up with plastic storage wrap or aluminum foil. The brownies will be good for three days after baking, after that they become stale.
Tips
- Mix the dry ingredients and then add in your wet ingredients for the best results.
- Begin by melting your butter so you can set it aside to cool. If it is too hot it can scramble your eggs.
- Don’t over bake brownies or they’ll become dry.
