These cast iron skillet green beans are made with fresh green beans, spices, a little lemon, and Parmesan cheese. They are perfect for a busy weeknight or are also a great side dish for holiday dinners!
I love my cast iron skillet! It is one of my favorite things to cook with. I love it for making main dishes like this cast iron skillet chicken and rice, side dishes, and even quick bread recipes like cast iron skillet banana bread and cast iron skillet zucchini bread.
These green beans are easy enough to whip up for a busy weekday dinner and are also great for the holidays. I love making these green beans to go with a roasted turkey or ham and it is such a bonus they don’t take up any room in your oven! They are cooked completely on the stove top.

🥣 Ingredients needed
For this recipe, you will need:
- Fresh green beans: You’ll need about 12 ounces of fresh green beans.
- Lemon: You can also use bottled lemon juice.
- Salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika: To season the beans with.
- Butter: I recommend using unsalted butter so you can control the amount of salt going into the recipe.
- Parmesan cheese: To sprinkle on top of the green beans.
⏲️How to make
Wash and clean your green beans. Remove any ends from the green beans. In a large cast iron skillet, add two tablespoons of butter over low heat. Add in your green beans once the butter is melted. Sprinkle the spices over the green beans evenly.
Saute over medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add lemon juice and the sprinkle with Parmesan cheese the last two minutes of cooking.
👩🏻🍳Tips
- Be careful not to overcook these green beans, you want them to still have a little crunch to them.
- You can use olive oil instead of butter if desired.
- Add more cheese, if you like really cheesy green beans.
🥡 How to store leftovers
Store any leftover green beans in an airtight container in your fridge. They will be good for up to four days after making.
🧽 How to clean your cast iron skillet
Wash your cast iron skillet with water (if needed, you can use a tiny dot of dish soap). If you have any stubborn, stuck-on cheese then simmer the pan with hot water for about three minutes. Once the pan has cooled, empty the water, and scrub the pan.
