I make a big pot of chili almost every Halloween. I think it’s an easy go-to meal to help everyone fuel up before trick or treating. This Halloween, I wanted to make it extra spooky by adding some severed witch fingers (which are really just hot dogs).

  • Easy to make: This chili uses simple ingredients and is easy to make.

🥣 Ingredients needed

The ingredients needed to make Halloween chili.

The complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

For this chili, you will need:

  • Ground turkey
  • White onion
  • Water
  • Canned crushed tomatoes: Do not drain.
  • Canned kidney and pinto beans: You can also swap out the beans for what you have on hand.
  • Garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and pepper: The seasonings for the chili.
  • Hot dogs and sliced almonds: You can use whatever type of hot dogs you prefer. These are used to make the witch fingers for the chili.

🫘 Variations

This recipe is easily customizable. You can swap the beans for your favorite or what you have on hand.

🔪 Equipment needed

You will need a large pot and a small sharp kitchen knife to cut lines into the hot dogs.

⏲️ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)

A collage with four images showing how to make Halloween chili.

Begin by browning your ground turkey with the diced white onion in a large pot (image 1). Cook until no pink remains and drain any excess fat.

Combine the remaining ingredients and stir well (image 2). Bring to a low boil then reduce to a simmer. I recommend simmering for at least one hour for the best flavor.

Before serving, cut knuckles and a space for an almond “fingernail” for your witch finger hot dogs (image 3). You can microwave, grill, or boil the hotdogs. Use your favorite method. Add the almond fingernail before serving (image 4).

🥗 What to serve with this recipe

You can serve this chili with shredded cheese, diced onion, and corn chips on top. Crackers or cornbread also pair nicely. My family loves this Amish Cornbread recipe.

👩🏻‍🍳 Tips

  • Let this chili simmer to really bring out the flavor.
  • You can microwave, grill, or boil your hotdog. Use whichever method is easiest for you.

🥡 How to store leftovers

Store any leftover chili in an airtight container in your fridge. Leftover chili will be good for up to four days after making.
