Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Sometimes I think I go a little bit overboard with Halloween Activities and Halloween Recipes but why not go all out and be extra festive?
I wanted to start my kids’ day on Halloween with a little fun. You can’t go wrong with chocolate banana muffins that look like a spider. They taste amazing too. They are extra moist with just the right amount of chocolate and banana flavor.

🥣 Ingredients needed
The complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
For these muffins, you will need:
- All purpose flour
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Baking soda
- Salt
- Sugar
- Butter: I recommend using unsalted butter for almost all of my baking recipes. This allows you to control the amount of salt going into your recipe.
- Milk: You can use regular milk or a milk alternative such as almond milk.
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- Ripe bananas: You will need two large ripe bananas. If your bananas aren’t at least a little spotty, they won’t be sweet enough for the muffins.
🔪 Equipment needed
You will need a large mixing bowl, a hand or stand mixer, a muffin pan, and muffin liners for this recipe.
⏲️ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)
Begin by preheating your oven to 350° F. Next, use a fork to mash your bananas (image 1).
In a large bowl combine your dry ingredients and mix well (image 2). Next, add in your wet ingredients and mix until well combined (image 3).
Stir in the chocolate chips with a large spoon (image 4). Pour into a muffin tin lined with cupcake liners (image 5). Fill each one about ⅔ full. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the middle.
Let the muffins cool and then gently add pretzel sticks for legs on each side of the muffins and candy eyes to the middle (image 6). Add a small broken piece of pretzel for the mouth, if you like.
👩🏻🍳 Tips
- Wait for the muffins to cool before adding the candy eyes as they can get runny due to the heat.
- Use festive Halloween liners to make these muffins extra special.
🥡 How to store leftovers
Store any leftover muffins in an airtight container at room temperature. The muffins will be good for up to four days after baking.
