I love doing paper plate crafts with my kids. Some of our favorites have been this Summer Paper Plate Wreath, Patriotic Paper Plate Wreath, and the Rainbow Fish Paper Plate Craft.

I had several people in my Toddler and Preschool Activities Facebook Group ask if I could make something for Juneteenth so I decided to keep it easy and make a paper plate craft. I really don’t think you can go wrong with paper plates and kids crafts! If you’re on Facebook, I highly recommend joining. There are so many fun ideas posted daily.

❔What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth (which is short for June 19th) celebrates the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865. They came to take control of Texas to make sure every enslaved person was free.
Juneteenth is also called “Freedom Day” and is now a US federal holiday as of 2021. History.com has a great article all about Juneteenth if you would like more facts and details.
⭐ About the colors of Juneteenth
There are several different colors associated with Juneteenth. There is an official flag for Juneteenth that you may see flying. This flag has the colors red, white, and blue.
There is also the Pan African flag which has the colors red, green, and black. Sometimes the color yellow is also used. It is said to represent mineral wealth from Africa.
We used red, green, black, and yellow for our craft but please feel free to use whichever colors speak to you. I’d love to hear about what colors you pick and why in the comments below.
