⭐ Why you’ll love this recipe
This no cook gingerbread play dough is super easy to make. It smells great and it also is fun to use with play dough mats (like these gingerbread play dough mats or alphabet play dough mats).
Please note that this is not taste safe (it would taste really, really salty any way) and adult supervision is always required.
⭐ Ingredients and supplies needed
- All purpose flour
- Salt
- Vegetable oil
- Cream of tartar: The cream of tartar acts as a preservative so that your play dough will last a few weeks.
- Water
- Ginger, cinnamon, cloves: To give the play dough a gingerbread scent.
- Brown food coloring: This is optional. I like to add a little food coloring so it is a nice brown color. Without the food coloring, the play dough is a light color.
- Cookie cutters, buttons, play dough tools
⭐ How to make (step by step guide)
Combine all ingredients into a large mixing bowl (image 1) . Stir with a spoon until combined. Once combined, finish mixing it together with your hands. Add more water by the tablespoon if consistency is too dry (image 2).
⭐ Tips
- Add a little nutmeg or extra spices if you like a more fragrant play dough.
- Use cookie cutters and play dough tools that you already have on hand.
⭐ How to store this play dough
Store your play dough in an airtight container (such as a Tupperware container). If kept in the container, it will last for several weeks.
Gingerbread play dough will last several weeks if kept in an airtight container.
Gingerbread play dough is a great way for kids to work on their fine motor skills, use their imagination, and explore their senses (such as smell and touch).
This play dough is not taste safe. To have the right consistency, it uses a lot of salt so even though it smells amazing, it would just taste like salt.
