These rice crispy treats made with marshmallow fluff (also called marshmallow creme) are such an easy and delicious no bake treat!
While I usually use mini marshmallows in my rice cereal treats, I recently made a batch of Amish pumpkin whoopie pies that called for marshmallow fluff. I was able to use the leftover marshmallow fluff to make rice crispy treats and they turned out great.
Both my kids and my husband really love rice crispy treats and I love that they are so easy to make! Who doesn’t love a tasty, no bake treat?

Some people say it is rice crispie treats, rice krispie, or rice cereal treats. Rice Krispie is the name brand of rice cereal. All are correct when referring to these yummy treats!
📋 Ingredients needed for this recipe
I love that only four ingredients are needed. For this recipe, you will need:
- Marshmallow fluff: Also called marshmallow creme.
- Rice cereal: Such as Rice Krispies. I used a store brand without any problems.

🍽 What type of pan is needed?
You will need a 8 x 8 inch pan for this recipe. Be sure to grease it well.

Once the marshmallow fluff is melted in, turn the heat off and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the mixture over your rice cereal (image 2). Stir it together (image 3).

👩🏻🍳 Tips for this recipe
- Use fresh cereal and marshmallow fluff. Using stale ingredients will really impact the quality of your treats.
- Don’t press the treats down too hard when putting them in the pan. Pushing them down too much will make them tough.
- Use pure vanilla extract for the best results.
- Reduce the heat before adding your vanilla extract in.
💬 Recipe FAQs
Yes, you can use marshmallow fluff instead of marshmallows in rice crispy treats. The fluff is actually quicker to melt in with the butter.
Marshmallow fluff is a great substitute for marshmallows.
Marshmallow fluff tastes similar to marshmallows. It has a similar sweet flavor.
Rice crispy treats get hard if you press down on them too much when placing them in a pan. They will also harden in the fridge so I recommend keeping them at room temperature.

Taste good but mine didn’t stick together. I have no idea what I did wrong. I followed the directions exactly and let them set for over 5 hours. I’m not sure if it’s because it was too hot in my house (summer in AZ 🥵) or maybe because I used generic rice brand rice cereal 🤷🏼♀️.

If I wanted to add peanut butter to this recipe how much should I use?
Audrey
I haven’t tested this with peanut butter but you could experiment. I would recommend 1/2 of a cup of creamy.

Can I double this recipe and use a larger pan to make them thicker?

I’ve made these before but this is the first time using vanilla. So good.

Very good recipe. I had some marshmallow cream in the pantry nearing it’s expiration date so figured I’d use it somehow and found your recipe. It’s been many, many years since I’ve made rice crispy treats so I kinda felt like a kid again while making them 😅😊. I added some chocolate chips and I melted the butter and marshmallow in the microwave in a glass bowl…only took 30 seconds. Thank you for the recipe 😊
