These Amish Brownies are the best ever! They’re a tried and true old fashioned Amish dessert recipe that will disappear in minutes.

It’s time to ditch the boxed stuff and make these old fashioned Amish brownies instead. Don’t be intimidated by this from scratch recipe, they’re fairly easy to make and they are just so good. They’re fudgy, loaded with chocolate, and are gooey in the middle. They’re my go-to brownie recipe, especially when I need to feed a crowd since they’re made in a 9 x 13 inch pan.

๐ฅฃ Ingredients needed

As always, the complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the printable recipe card further below in the post.
For these brownies, you will need:
- Butter: I almost always recommend using unsalted butter in my recipes so that you can control the amount of salt going into the recipe. Salt content can vary from brand to brand in salted butter.
- Oil: I’ve made these with vegetable oil, canola oil, and coconut oil before. Any neutral oil will work.
- Sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Eggs
- All purpose flour
- Cocoa powder
- Baking powder
- Salt
๐ฅVariations
You can add in chopped pecans or walnuts, if you like (about ยฝ cup).
๐ช Equipment needed
You will need a mixing bowl, hand or stand mixer, and a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
โฒ๏ธ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)

Preheat your oven to 350ยฐ and grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
Add the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl and gently stir (image 1). Next, add in the wet ingredients and mix until well combined (image 2). Do not over mix or the brownies will become cakey.
Pour the batter into the baking dish (image 3). Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณ Tips
- Use a good quality cocoa powder as a higher quality cocoa powder will make your brownies so much better.
- Don’t over mix the batter or your brownies will become too cakey.
๐ฅก How to store leftovers
You can store these brownies at room temperature (cover your dish well once they’ve cooled or transfer to a storage container). They’ll be good for four days after making.
