These Copycat Great American Cookies Snickerdoodles are ultra soft and chewy just like the ones you’d get at the mall or storefront. This homemade version takes just a few minutes to put together and there’s no need to chill the dough either. They are just like the originals but are way more affordable to make at home.

❤️ Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Taste: These taste almost exactly like the real deal. They have just the right amount of sweetness and cinnamon.
  • Texture: These cookies are definitely soft and chewy like the originals.
  • Ease: These snickerdoodles are super easy to make with just a few steps.

🥣 Ingredients needed

The ingredients needed to make Copycat Great American Cookies Snickerdoodles.

The complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the printable recipe card further below in the post.

For these cookies, you will need:

  • Unsalted butter
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla
  • All purpose flour
  • Cream of tartar
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Light agave syrup: This is what gives the cookies their soft and chewy texture. You can use corn syrup as a substitute, if needed. It is a 1:1 substitute.
  • Cinnamon and sugar (for the topping): In this recipe, the cinnamon sugar mixture uses a higher than normal ratio of cinnamon to sugar. I felt like when I had the original cookie there was more cinnamon than sugar on the topping so I wanted to be able to replicate that at home.

🔪 Equipment needed

You will need a hand or stand mixer, baking sheet, and parchment paper (not wax paper).

⏲️ Recipe instructions (step by step guide)

A collage showing the steps needed to make Copycat Great American Cookies Snickerdoodles.

Begin by preheating your oven to 350° and lining your baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream together the sugar, butter, vanilla, and agave syrup (image 1). Next, add in the remaining ingredients for the cookie dough. Mix until well combined, scraping the sides as needed (image 2).

In a mixing bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar for the topping (image 3). Form dough balls and roll into the cinnamon sugar mixture (image 4).

Place six dough balls per baking sheet and bake for 10 to 13 minutes or until the edges are golden. Let the cookies rest for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

👩🏻‍🍳 Tips

  • Be sure to let your cookies rest on the baking sheet before transferring. The hot baking sheet will help finish them up outside of the oven.
  • If making smaller or larger cookies, you will need to adjust the bake time accordingly.
  • Be sure to use butter that has been softened to room temperature.

🥡 How to store leftovers

Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. The cookies will be good for up to four days after making.
