This copycat Sweet Tomatoes ranch dressing goes great on a salad or with fresh cut veggies.
I am so sad that Sweet Tomatoes (also called Soup Plantation) is no longer open. It was one of my favorite places to go to lunch at and I have really good memories of meeting lots of friends there for lunch, especially one my friends who has now moved to Arkansas.
One of the things that made Sweet Tomatoes so good was their ranch dressing! Of course the muffins were delicious too but their ranch dressing was just really special. I’ve been working hard on coming up with a good copycat and I think this one is super close.

Ingredients needed
- Mayonnaise: I used Hellman’s but you can use whatever your favorite brand is.
- Sour cream: Use a full fat sour cream for the best results.
- Buttermilk: I highly recommend buying buttermilk for the best results but you can also make your own buttermilk by adding one tablespoon of lemon juice to one cup of milk.
- Dried minced parsley, dried dill weed, tarragon, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper: The spices for the ranch.
How to make
In a large bowl, first combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. Stir them together well. Next, add in the spices and whisk. Let the mixture sit in your fridge for about 30 minutes before serving so the ranch flavor has time to develop.
How to store leftovers
Store this ranch in airtight container in your fridge. This dressing will be good for one week after making.
Tips for this recipe
- For a thinner ranch, add more buttermilk (about two tablespoons).
- Use regular buttermilk for the best results.
- Add more or less salt and pepper to your own personal taste.

I just wanted to say that I’ve made this a couple of times since finding your recipe last year and it never fails to amaze me how you were able to make this taste exactly like the original. Sweet Tomatoes was my favorite restaurant and your recipe brings back the nostalgia every time!!!
