I absolutely love sharing Copycat Recipes with my readers. I’ve been making copycat recipes for years and years now. I think it all started when we lived abroad for my husband’s job and I was missing all the comfort food at home. Even though we’re back in Texas now I still love recreating restaurant recipes at home. This Copycat Texas Roadhouse White Gravy (or also called cream gravy) is perfect with mashed potatoes, biscuits, chicken fried chicken, or really almost anything else you can imagine! It tastes really close to the restaurant version.

❤️ Why you’ll love this recipe
- Comforting: This gravy is the ultimate comfort food.
- Easy: If you’ve never made gravy before, it’s actually fairly simple. Just be sure to keep whisking and give it time to thicken up. There are step by step photos below to show you exactly what to do.
- Secret ingredient: There’s even a secret ingredient for this copycat recipe to make it taste just like the Texas Roadhouse version.
🥣 Ingredients needed
The complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the printable recipe card further below in the post.
For this recipe, you will need:
- Unsalted butter: I recommend using unsalted butter since the chicken base can be a little salty. By using unsalted butter you can control the amount of salt going into the gravy and keep it from getting overly salty.
- All purpose flour
- Fresh cracked pepper: I used about 1 teaspoon of fresh cracked pepper but you can do pepper to taste
- Salt
- Sugar
- Milk: I recommend using whole milk or 2% milk.
- Heavy cream
- Chicken base: This is the secret ingredient that helps the gravy taste closest to the Texas Roadhouse version. I used the brand, “Better than Bouillon” which you can reference in the above ingredients photo.

🥗 What to serve with this recipe
This white gravy (or also called cream gravy) goes well with so many different dishes. At Texas Roadhouse it is usually served with their mashed potatoes, chicken fried chicken, or chicken fried sirloin. This white gravy also pairs amazingly with biscuits, roasted potatoes, Texas toast, chicken tenders, and steak fingers.
👩🏻🍳 Tips
- If your gravy is too thick just add a little more milk.
- If the gravy is too thin just let it cook a little more. It’ll thicken up. You can also add two teaspoons of flour to help the process.
- Keep a close eye on the gravy and continue to whisk as you cook it.
🥡 How to store leftovers
Leftover gravy can be kept in an airtight container in your fridge for up to three days.

This was so creamy and rich, and it tasted just like restaurant-style white gravy. I loved it over mashed potatoes, but it would be just as good with biscuits.
